“The people I paint are real people with whom I have a special bond, they have names.” My paintings are a simple reproduction of their feelings, an expression of their emotions and feelings.” “Every piece I paint is charged with passion, passion I derive from my personal relationship with them.” They are the ones that show me what life is about, the ones that make me a better person, a better man.”
These are Luis Pantigozo’s words, words spoken with true feeling and spoken from the heart. It is no wonder that his paintings stir such emotion in the viewer, Luis puts everything he has into each painting. He wants us to feel what he is feeling, he wants us to become one with the painting so that we can for a moment be transported to another place and time. Luis’ subject matter may be simple, but not the emotion he evokes.
Although Pantigozo is truly an international artist (more than 60 group and solo exhibitions in Peru, Italy, England, Canada, the United States and others) his roots remain humble. This is due in part to his attachment to the land and the people of Peru, but also because of his illness which makes it hard for him to travel and which sometimes also keeps him from painting. Pantigozo has remained an artist of the people painting the people. Most of his subjects emanate from his brothers ranch in Peru, where Luis was born and still lives.
